A girl I went to High School with just tagged me in this on Facebook. She said “Look who’s in a movie! Jackie Johnson! Always knew she’d make it big!”
She’s not quite right but I appreciate the sentiment. Anyway yall, please go in your ON DEMAND menu and order FREAK DANCE on your TV! It should be in the “Now Playing in Theatres” menu. We are all so proud of this movie that started out as a stage show at UCB 5 years ago. Besser financed it himself along with Amy, Ian, and Matt Walsh (The original Upright Citizens Brigade) because he was so passionate about it. And, they could’ve gotten names for all the parts but he believed in us and let us be in it!
It’s my first movie, and so far my only movie, and I think yall will love it, so check it out!
Also the soundtrack is now on Itunes, so if you’re a musical theatre lover you should check that out too.
This pic is of my butt bouncing off of Matt Walsh’s head.
WHAT THE F IS HAPPENING IN THIS PIC!? You ask…
Well, a while back we shot a lil movie called FREAK DANCE. It stars all 4 founding members of the UCB, as well as some of their famous friends, and a bunch of us LA performers. All of your favorites like ANGELA TRIMBUR! DREW DROEGE! HAL RUDNICK! Me, JACKIE JOHNSON!
(I picked people whose names I could spell without second guessing myself)
Anyway, It’s a musical comedy not unlike Book Of Mormon, or Rocky Horror Picture Show.
It’s crazy, hilarious, and you GOTTA SEE IT. We’re releasing it this month to the world! Every fan of the UCB, every past and present student of its theatre, and every performer help us spread the word about this little movie that could!
NY, DC, and LA get a whole week to see it in theatres. LA, we’re screening it for a week straight at UCBTLA starting May 14th. COME SEE IT! Preferably on Wednesday the 16th cause that’s my night to host. But any night will do! Info here- tickets are only 5 bucks.
Also, there’s a tour of the movie going through the East Coast area- Besser will be there hosting improv lectures at all locations as well. All dates and info are on the Freak Dance website, http://www.freakdancemovie.com/
COME CHECK IT OUT! You will LOVE IT! Come see what all the hype is about!
Witness the morphing of Amy Poehler into her many, many roles from the Upright Citizens Brigade TV show, the one that aired right here on Comedy Central once upon a time.
NOTHING is more fun than sketch comedy, and no one is better at it than A.P. our BOSS LADY.
“I’m not a big birthday person, I don’t really love celebrating birthdays - I especially don’t love celebrating 40, but my 3-year-old made me a really great present I want to show you. He made me a macaroni necklace. Isn’t it cute? And if you squint, you would pay $500 for this necklace, right?”

When I saw this hilarious and wonderful bit last night, I said “I bet this was Amy Poehler’s idea.” And the LA Times blog confirms that it was. I fucking love that she thought of this and got everyone else on board. The media is constantly trying to sell us on the idea that WOMEN HATE EACH OTHER. We are jealous of how pretty other women are, we want what other women have, we are all like two seconds away from tearing each other’s weaves out at ALL TIMES because we are competitive and hateful and crazy. And while that is true 100% of the time for real housewives of major metropolitan areas, my own experience tells me it’s really not the case for regular, non-reality-star ladies. And so anyway, rather than squawking on her tumblebloggerpage about unfair characterization by the media for the last 1000 years, Amy actually did something to SHOW that women can have fun with each other and cooperate and risk looking silly together and be happy for each other when one of them wins something. I love that she walks the walk, that she shows instead of tells. She is a HERO (to borrow an Alison phrase) and an inspiration and it makes me proud to be affiliated with the UCB.
