georgeismine asked: No, Orange County. Thanks for thinking of that, but I was more interested in how you got the jobs in the first place. So you worked for a company?
4 Years ago during the writer’s strike I was paying my bills with credit cards and begging my parents for rent money. Up until that point I was making my living being a “background artist” for movies and TV. My dad gave me rent and said “this is the last time I’m giving you money. Get a job or move home”
So I was hiking Runyon canyon since it was a free thing to do and I love staring at people, and a glistening man jogged by with several dogs on leash. And I asked him what I now get asked every day “Are all those dogs yours?!” He curtly replied “I’m a dog walker.”
I had never heard of this career before. I grew up with animals all over me. My mom had like 12 cats in the house, and several dogs. She also has horses, pigs, cows, goats, etc. So I knew this was right up my alley.
I went home and googled “dog walker LA” and found a few companies, and emailed some with a cover letter and resume. One wrote me back. I interviewed and nailed it.
The rest is history. Cut to 4 years later and I’ve now been trusted with “high profile” clients, had background checks done on me, signed 9 page NDA’s- and all I wanna do is GAB ABOUT WHAT I SEE!!!
Let’s just say THE HELP really resinated with me. Hope that’s not seen as racially insensitive…
